What Inspired “Big Sis Kat” Character
Share
Some characters come from imagination.
Big Sis Kat came from longing.
When I created the Big Sis Kat letter series, I wasn’t just dreaming up another whimsical character for my storytelling world — I was creating someone I had always wished for. Someone I needed. Someone many of us still do.
Growing up, I didn’t have a big sister. But I dreamed about her all the time.
I imagined someone who would write to me from faraway places, telling me about her adventures in sun-soaked villages and chaotic city streets, sipping strong coffee in quirky cafés and sharing everything she saw, smelled, tasted, and felt — all in the kind of vivid, funny, poetic detail that only a big sister could get away with.
I longed for letters filled with sisterly advice, encouragement, teasing, tough love, and above all — connection. Someone who would remind me I was strong when I felt weak. Who would tell me when I was being silly, but love me even more for it. Someone who would tell me stories and secrets, laugh until our bellies hurt, and share skincare tips like they were ancient treasure maps.
Big Sis Kat is that person.
She’s quick-witted and playful. She’s a little chaotic, a little glamorous, always on the move — but she never forgets to write. She sends her stories with lipstick-stained postcards, wild tales, sisterly wisdom, and little truths hidden between lines like folded notes in a high school locker.
She’s not perfect. But she’s warm, real, and always rooting for you.
The bond between sisters — real or imagined — is like no other. It’s deep, fierce, funny, and forgiving. It’s the kind of relationship where someone can call you out and lift you up in the very same breath. I created Big Sis Kat because I believe we all need a version of that in our lives — someone who sees us, writes to us, and believes in us.
So whether you grew up with a sister, lost one, never had one, or simply long for that kind of connection — Big Sis Kat is for you.
She’s the voice I always wanted to hear, now passed lovingly from my pen to your mailbox.
